Error message:
The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the following reasons:
– A datasheet component compatible with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation is not installed.
– Your Web browser does not support ActiveX controls.
– A component is not properly configured for 32-bit or 64-bit support.
Symptom: When trying to click datasheet view in SharePoint 2010 with Windows 10, IE 11, and Office 2016 (Excel 2016 x64).
Solution:
You just need to install the 32 bit Data Connectivity Components.

I have users who can see the data sheet view but cannot edit it . Others can edit but I have a few that cannot. The ones who cannot edit it have the database engine installed and still cannot edit the sheets.
What else could I look at to restore this functionality?
What version of SharePoint do you have? With SharePoint 2010, almost always the issue is on the client, and can be resolved if the user uses IE as opposed to another browser, and either has the 32 bit office components installed, or the 32 bit download referenced above if new Win 10 installations.
The datasheet view uses part of the Office installation. So, one thing that has resolved issues is to uninstall and reinstall Office. If you install Office 2016, you’ll need the 32 bit components referenced above.
